Wallingford featured on BBC South Today – Oxford yesterday, with a feature on the ongoing rubbish situation at Wallingford Beach. This issue was discussed at the last council meeting, and has become more of an issue as lockdown has eased, with more people looking to enjoy the riverside.
The BBC interviewed local resident Steve Holder, as well as councillor Keats-Rohan, who both spoke to the desire for the best of the town to shine through and to keep the area tidy for all.
SODC have promised more bins in the town, as well as more frequent collections. This is in conjunction with the direct fines which have now been brought in.
PCSOs will now be able to issue direct fines of £80 to anyone over the age of 18 for dropping litter on a public land/ highway but not picking it up.
