If there’s one thing Wallingford is known for in the realm beyond Oxfordshire, Bunkfest is probably it. The local folk festival is a fantastic staple to the calendar, attracting crowds to the Kinecroft and around the town.
Unfortunately, writing as we are in March, with the country in the midst of a coronavirus related lockdown, there have been some concerns about Bunkfest going ahead, despite it being still a full 5 months away.
Well, it turns out the Directors of the festival are thinking ahead also, and they have decided, for now, to proceed.
We are pleased to announce that a decision has been made by the Directors to continue to stage BunkFest 2020 as planned on the 4th – 6th September subject to this being taken out of our hands by the decisions of outside agencies or the continuation of the Covid 19 pandemic making it medically and/or socially unacceptable for it to proceed.
While a further update reveals that camping ticket sales are currently frozen until 1st July 2020, presumably to give time for the current situation to stabilise before a final decision is made.
I know we would all want the festival to go ahead, but to over use a phrase, we are in exceptional times. Let’s hope that we can round off the summer in the traditional way, however you decide to enjoy Bunkfest.
