We will be hosting a Charity Family Fun Day on Sunday 14 June, running from 11:00am to 5:00pm at the Sports Park — part of the three-day Hildred’s Festival of Skittles.
This event is open to all, with all proceeds going to Wallingford Accessible Boat Club (WABC) — a local volunteer-led charity that offers free boat trips on the River Thames for disabled people and older members of the community.
It’s a perfect day out for families: highlights include a dedicated Junior Alley skittles competition, vintage pub games both indoors and outdoors, and activities suitable for every age group. There will also be hot and cold food on sale, local ale and cider, a raffle, and plenty of chances to have a go at the traditional West Country game of skittles.
The wider Festival of Skittles also features a tournament on the Saturday, drawing skittles clubs from across the UK — especially from the South West, where the game remains hugely popular.
ABM Skittles Club is the only club of its kind in Oxfordshire, and has been at the heart of Wallingford since 1964. The sport was first brought here by maltsters from Bath and Bristol who worked at the town’s former maltings.
WABC is one of just two organisations on the River Thames operating a fully accessible Wheelyboat — designed so wheelchair users and people with limited mobility can enjoy safe, comfortable trips out on the water.
Everyone is warmly invited to come along, enjoy a relaxed day out, and show their support for two well-established local community groups.
